Ties Forward:
Thinking sustainably, this public installation takes advantage of discarded resources, and reinvents their purpose, resulting in a colorful engaging public sculpture. The dark rich natural finish of the aged worn wooden railroad ties make up the outer surface while the front and back faces are painted, each railroard tie face a different color, creating an analog pixelated picture plane. The overall image can be translated differently depending on which angle the piece is viewed. From the side for instance, the piece may appear to be more textural and with an abstract arrangement of colors, the unevenly placed railroad ties hiding the overall image located on the front or back. Constrastingly, the user who views the piece straight on, will be surprised to find an actual image. made up by the pixelated pianted faces.
The painted images act as doorways, through which the railroad ties are taking you. A future hopeful destination?
